My interest in drawing and painting dates back to early childhood. I have always had a compulsion to draw, and this led me to art school when I was sixteen years old.
Having work selected for the BP Portrait Award in 2003 was the catalyst for my practice as a portrait painter.
Over time I have come to realize that a good portrait is more than a good likeness. Exploring the underlying mysteries of the face reveals an abstract world of shape, line, rhythm and colour.
Drawing from life is my preferred method of working, however when this is not possible photography can be used instead.
I work to commission for private clients and institutions and exhibit at shows that include The Royal Society of Portrait Painters and The Royal West of England Academy.
